The Dr. Fareed Haj Scholarship Endowment supports scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in or accepted for admission to FIU who are blind or visually impaired. The recipient will be selected on the basis of academic achievement and civic engagement. Financial need will also be considered.
Dr. Fareed Haj was a selfless example of service to his family and the community. Dr. Haj contracted trachoma as a small child in Palestine which caused permanent blindness. After receiving a scholarship to study in New York, he dedicated his life to the education of students with disabilities. This scholarship aims to honor Dr. Haj’s commitment and to help FIU’s blind and visually impaired students realize their educational goals.
