FIU Libraries online collections are widely used by the public. The Digital Library of the Caribbean alone gets nearly one million hits per month.
Our Special Collections are bursting with photos, manuscripts, publications and fragile treasures that can only be viewed by the public if we digitize them. The costly process includes high resolution scanning, adding metadata and optical character resolution, cataloging, preserving the original media and sharing the information online in a meaningful index, exhibition or collection.
Your donation will be put to work! For each $100 you donate to FIU Libraries' digital initiatives, a resource will be digitized. (That's less than $4.00 per pay period.) Historical resources available to be digitized include Everglades and South Florida items, Latin American music, Caribbean publications, Cuban genealogy materials and FIU University Archives. After your gift is received, you will be contacted by the Library to see if you have a preference for how your money is used. Your name will appear on the Library web site and newsletter.
