InCubando@FIU is a partnership between FIU and Startup Cuba, a program of Roots of Hope. This course, designed to foster and support Entrepreneurship in Cuba, kicked off May 28th with 15 young Entrepreneurs from Cuba. The program, which last six weeks, has brought together young entrepreneurs who work in the spaces of media, fashion design, apparel manufacturing, financial services and hospitality. During their time in Miami, they have taken basic classes taught in Spanish by the College of Business faculty, as well as intensive English classes. The program provides entrepreneurs with practical knowledge and valuable contacts that enable them to grow their on-island business ventures. As such, outside the classroom, students have access to peer mentors and other business leaders in the community. More than a hundred young Cubans from around the Island applied to the program, 24 were selected to participate and 15 were able to obtain a visa.
InCubando@FIU has been instrumental to help us better develop our small businesses on the island. It’s very interesting to see how it really captures the essentials of our businesses in such a short time. I hope the program continues next year so others can gain this valuable knowledge.Yosleidy Miranda
