My time at Florida International University has reassured me of one thing; I made the correct choice by attending FIU. Throughout my seven years as a student, FIU has provided me an unparalleled college experience and has helped make Miami my home. Through continued support from the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice, I have researched a wide array of research topics, developed a strong passion for academic scholarship, and completed two graduate degrees. During this period, I received ample opportunities for career development, participated in academic conferences, and was encouraged to pursue my passions. Through outstanding leadership, mentorship, and phenomenal staff, the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice have cultivated an environment conducive to learning and career development. I moved to Miami specifically for the International Crime and Justice Degree. Though excited, I was rather nervous to begin a doctorate program. Nonetheless, my experience was nothing short of exceptional. The Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice undoubtedly prepared me to exceed my goals. The enriching educational climate was incredibly robust. I was surrounded by brilliant faculty who were not only committed to prepare the next generation of scholars and practitioners, but also eager to mentor students. I was encouraged to pursue my research interests and challenged to provide innovative policy solutions to real world problems. The faculty and staff not only supported me in my educational endeavors, but in tumultuous times, provided a safe-haven and place of belonging.
