The Pedro Jose Greer, MD Scholarship is awarded to 3rd year medical students with financial need who demonstrate excellence in compassion and humility, qualities that exemplify the work of Dr. Pedro “Joe” Greer. In July 2007, Dr. Greer joined the newly established HWCOM, where he led the creation of the Department of Humanities, Health, and Society, and became its Founding Chair. Dr. Greer also spearheaded the nationally and internationally recognized, interprofessional medical education program, Green Family Foundation NeighborhoodHELP program, which prepares future physicians to assess and address the social determinants that impact health outcomes. This scholarship will honor Dr. Greer’s vision and leadership at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine by providing scholarship support for our medical students.
